Early Dismissal August 21st

posted Aug 14, 2017, 7:41 AM by Google Admin

On August 21st, there will be a solar eclipse event which will reach its peak for our area at 2:43 in the
afternoon. The moon will move between the sun and the Earth blocking the light of the sun. Thus, the moon
will cast a shadow on the Earth. The event will begin at 1:10 p.m. and last until approximately 4:10 p.m. This
is a wonderful educational moment for all of us, but it can also be dangerous if one looks directly at the sun.
Partial eclipses, annular eclipses, and the partial phases of solar eclipses are never safe to watch without taking
special precautions. Do not attempt to observe any phase of the eclipse with the naked eye. Failure to use
appropriate filtration may result in permanent eye damage or blindness! The solar eclipse will occur
throughout our normal dismissal time. In order to ensure the safety of our students and staff, we will follow
our early dismissal schedule. This action is being taken as a result of safety concerns related to this event. We
feel it will be safest for our students to be off of the buses and roads during the actual eclipse.
