County Schools offers a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to all
children, ages 3-21, who reside within the school system boundaries and who are
identified as having a disability. We are committed to providing instruction

If it is suspected that a student may have a
disability and evidenced based interventions have been used, an appropriate
evaluation is completed by Lanier County Schools. After completing the evaluation, an
appropriate placement committee meets to review all pertinent data and
determine if the student has a disability based on Georgia Department of
Education Rules and Regulations. If the
child qualifies for Special Education services, and the parent/guardian
consents to services, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed.

Education visit the GeorgiaDepartment of Education website.

Special Needs Scholarship Program
The Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (GSNS) Program is a
school choice program available for special needs students attending Georgia
public schools who are served under an Individualized Education Plan
(IEP). Certain conditions may
apply. For additional information, visit
the SpecialNeeds Scholarship Program on the Georgia Department of Education website.
In accordance with IDEA regulations,
Lanier County School System seeks to ensure that all disabled students (ages
3-21) in need of special education within its jurisdiction are identified,
located, and evaluated, including those attending private or home schools. Final identification of students with
disabilities and programming for such students occurs only after an appropriate
evaluation and determination by an appropriate Placement Team.
If the “child find” process indicates
that a student may require special education and support services to benefit
from regular education, the student will be referred to the Placement Team to
determine the student’s eligibility for special education services.
If you know of a child with a disability
please notify the Special Education Director.
